Artificial intelligence discovers millions of potential antibiotics

Artificial intelligence aids in the search for new antibiotics

Researchers have utilized artificial intelligence to discover nearly a million potential sources of new antibiotics in nature. This breakthrough marks a crucial advancement in the fight against bacterial resistance to antibiotic treatment. By analyzing over 60,000 metagenomes from various environments, scientists identified a substantial number of promising antimicrobial peptides. Following the synthesis and testing of 100 peptides in the laboratory on key pathogens, researchers confirmed their efficacy.
