Lviv Station to Become Barrier-Free: New Program by Ukrzaliznytsia

Implementation of the «Barrier-Free Railway» program at Lviv station has begun.

«Ukrzaliznytsia» has started the reconstruction of high platforms, installation of elevators for seamless access to trains and recreational areas. Lviv station is one of the priority objects for ensuring accessibility for passengers, especially for people with disabilities and other mobility-impaired groups, as it is the second busiest station in Ukraine.

The lack of a ramp on the stairs was the first obstacle for passengers, noted veteran of the Armed Forces Alexander Beskynsky.

Lviv has become a key medical center in the country since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Lviv station was chosen as a pilot project for comprehensive reconstruction due to its importance for military personnel, as well as the city’s transit hub for international routes. The project includes raising platforms and installing elevators to ensure barrier-free access to trains.

«We understand that the reconstruction of Lviv station is not just an architectural improvement, but primarily a matter of safety and increasing comfort for those who truly need it. Our obligation is to provide the opportunity to feel dignified in our infrastructure, especially for those who defended our Motherland,» said the Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia, Yevgen Lyashchenko.

The reconstruction process is expected to start next year and will take between three to five years.
