Ecological disaster on the coast of Odessa

The Catastrophic Contamination of Odessa Bay

The blowing up of the dam of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Station by Russian occupiers has led to catastrophic contamination of water bodies, especially the Odessa Bay, in the following years. Massive amounts of water washed everything that had accumulated in the reservoir over many years into the sea.

This was reported by Odessa ecologist Serhiy Stepanenko. He emphasized that all garbage dumps and mass animal burials were taken to the sea, which significantly worsened the situation.

«It’s like we are washing away everything that has accumulated in the Kakhovka reservoir over many years with a powerful hose. This includes not only sediment, but also waste from industrial enterprises located upstream, including from Zaporizhzhia. And all of this was taken to the sea, to the Dnipro-Bug Estuary, and then to the Odessa Bay,» explained the expert.
