Honor releases its first foldable smartphone Flip, rivalling Samsung

This week, the company Honor presented its first foldable smartphone, the Magic V Flip, as a challenge to Samsung by engineers from China who are expanding their enterprise in the high-tech market to compete with major rivals.

The Honor Magic V Flip smartphone will initially be available only in China, with the company emphasizing the camera and artificial intelligence capabilities.

In the first quarter of 2024, Honor was the largest player in the smartphone market in China by market share, according to data from the international corporation IDC.

The brand has been actively growing since its separation from Huawei in 2020 to avoid US sanctions. Since then, it has released several high-tech smartphones in an attempt to challenge Apple and Samsung in the global market.

The term «foldable» refers to smartphones with flexible screens. There are currently two styles on the market — smartphones that fold like a book, and those that fold vertically, resembling a classic flip phone but without a visible hinge.

Honor already has a foldable smartphone in a book-style called the Magic V2 on the market. The Magic V Flip is their first smartphone with a vertical fold.
