South Korea unveils new laser weapon to combat drones
South Korea has recently initiated mass production of a cutting-edge laser weapon designed to effectively combat drones, as reported by CNN.
The innovative system utilizes laser beams to target small drones and multicopters at close range, rendering it difficult to detect prior to firing.
According to the South Korean Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA), this device is invisible, operates silently, requires no separate ammunition, and runs on electricity. The upcoming Block-II models are expected to enhance power and extend the range for targeting larger threats such as aircraft and ballistic missiles.
Last year, Block-I underwent successful testing with a remarkable 100% accuracy rate in hitting designated targets. The development of this advanced system spanned five years and necessitated an investment of over $36 million.
