Protecting Women and Combating Violence in the Family

The Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on the Organization of State Power, Olena Shulyak, emphasized the importance of these laws for protecting women and combating violence in the family. According to statistics, in 2023 alone, over 291,000 cases of domestic violence were registered, which is 20% more than the previous year. Under the new law, individuals who commit violence at home will be punished with fines or community service. Additionally, the adopted bill numbered 10420 allows for the initiation of criminal cases regarding children and adolescents without a victim’s statement, which will contribute to more effective prevention of this type of violence.
