Government to Regulate Military Registration of 17-year-old Boys Living Abroad
Minister for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories Irina Vereshchuk has announced the government’s intention to adopt a resolution regulating the issue of military registration of 17-year-old boys living abroad.
«The Ministry of Defense says they must come to Ukraine and register for military service. Legally, the Ministry of Defense is right, as this is stipulated in the current rules,» explained Irina Vereshchuk. According to the new resolution, these young men will be able to register after the reinstatement of martial law or their return to Ukraine.
The law requires that male teenagers approaching the age of 17 obtain a military registration card. Failure to comply with this requirement entails penalties.
However, according to Irina Vereshchuk, forcing students who have not reached conscription age to return to Ukraine only for military registration is impractical. This would only increase the workload on military medical commissions and not contribute to mobilization.
It is noted that the government has already adopted a resolution aimed at eliminating inconsistencies in legislation and addressing this issue.
