Metro Opening Delayed Due to Groundwater Issues

The launch dates for the metro line from Demiivska to Lybidska stations may change due to the fact that the aftermath of the accident cleanup may take longer than expected.

Architect Anatoliy Frolov expressed this opinion to «Telegraf».

«If the contractors want to build a new tunnel, it will be a launch… in 2026. Because in that area, there is geology, and there is also a major problem near the ‘flying saucer’ on Antonovycha Street, 180. During the construction of the new building (Ocean Mall), the builders did not take into account the specific soil conditions and drove small piles there, about 10-15 meters long… These piles affect the ground and underground water,» he explained.

The architect noted that there is a potentially dangerous section on the blue line of the capital’s metro.

It is located near the Holosiivska station. He pointed out that there is also water in that area. «Near the hotel ‘Mir’, a residential building was built, I think it has not been populated yet because there are also problems with groundwater. This applies to the territory of the Dovzhenko Center (in the area of Velyka Vasylkivska Street), where houses have already been built. This also creates pressure on the ground, which will not withstand easily,» the expert explained.
