Increasing Number of Young Mothers Seeking Help for Domestic Violence in Kyiv

In Kyiv, there has been a noticeable rise in the number of young mothers aged 18-25 seeking assistance for domestic violence, particularly those with children under 1 year old. These women are reaching out for help mainly to address their psychological needs, as they struggle with panic attacks, fear of loss, and other mental health challenges.

Marina Honda, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, disclosed that there has been a 15% increase in appeals to the Kyiv City Center for Gender Equality, Prevention, and Counteraction to Violence compared to the previous month. In February alone, the «helpline» received 1312 appeals, the majority of which were related to the necessity of psychological support, especially in cases of domestic violence. Additionally, experts have observed a rise in calls from men seeking help.

Honda shared that psychologists have addressed 561 requests regarding domestic violence, encompassing economic and psychological aspects. Moreover, mobile teams specializing in social-psychological aid have conducted nearly 200 consultations focusing on this type of violence.

In times of distress, individuals can contact the teams at 15-00 to receive guidance and support. Victims will be offered assistance and counseling, with the option for relocation to a secure location if necessary.
