Minister of Justice Supports Mobilizing Prisoners
Denys Maluska, the Minister of Justice, believes that mobilizing prisoners in Ukraine is not only effective but also necessary. With correctional facilities in the country facing overcrowding, this step is seen as crucial. Maluska highlighted the lack of available spots in pre-trial detention centers, especially in major cities.
Importance of Mobilizing Prisoners
«Mobilizing prisoners is an important issue,» stated the Minister. He emphasized the need to adhere to the norms of the number of prisoners in institutions.
Categories of Prisoners for Mobilization
In regards to mobilizing convicts for murder, Maluska expressed no concerns. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has approved voluntary mobilization for certain categories of prisoners, excluding those convicted of specific crimes like intentional murder, rape, or drug-related offenses. Additionally, prisoners with less than 3 years left in their sentence could potentially be mobilized.
