Parliament adopt bill on enhancing defense capabilities

Improving the System of Initial General Military Training in Ukraine

On May 22, the parliament adopted bill No. 11092 aimed at improving the system of initial general military training related to the subject «Defense of Ukraine». The bill was supported by 297 deputies and aims to increase the country’s defense capability.

This information was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

According to the document, initial general military training will include military-patriotic education and will be implemented at the third level of full general secondary education. Training will be conducted in institutions of general secondary, vocational, and specialized pre-higher education. Training programs will be developed by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in coordination with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The training will be carried out with the aim of shaping in students primary general military knowledge and specific competencies regarding defense awareness.

«The adoption of this bill is an extremely important step in shaping the defense awareness of citizens and increasing the country’s defense capability. The training system in a modern and accessible form should become a part of every Ukrainian’s life. Basics of medical care, primary skills of operating unmanned aerial vehicles, basics of survival in crisis situations, tactics fundamentals — these skills should be as widespread as possible. There is still a lot of work ahead, but the adoption of the bill is an impulse that will help to reboot the processes of military-patriotic education and create a qualitatively new and effective system,» — said Deputy Minister of Defense Natalia Kalmikova.
