Russia declares border areas with Ukraine as «alienation zone»

The Russian Federation Establishes «Zone of Alienation» near Ukraine Border

The authorities of the Russian Federation have decided to establish a «zone of alienation» in the areas of the Belgorod region bordering Ukraine. According to The Moscow Times, this applies to 14 settlements, where military checkpoints will be set up from July 23.

The head of the region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, explained this step as a response to «an extremely difficult operational situation.» However, he did not mention any grounds for such restrictions before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation.

«If local residents want to enter, they will need to apply to the heads of settlements or municipalities. Only adult men will be allowed to pass under strict regulations: in an armored car with jamming devices, in personal protective equipment — a bulletproof vest and helmet, accompanied by the military,» Gladkov said.
