Russia’s Recruitment Tactics in Germany
Russia has resorted to blackmail and bribery in order to recruit spies in Germany following the expulsion of over 600 diplomats from the EU. Thomas Haldenwang, head of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), revealed that Russian intelligence services are investing significant amounts of money into hiring agents. For instance, two Germans caught spying were reportedly paid around 400,000 euros. Russia is targeting German citizens residing in Russia or frequently traveling there, employing aggressive recruitment tactics without hesitation.
