Significance of Odessa Port: Consequences of Iskander Missile Landing

The potential situation when a rocket hit the port of Odesa on March 6 may have serious consequences for both our country and the aggressor.

The fact that the occupiers launched a rocket attack at a time when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis were at the port could pose a problem for our grain corridor, but at the same time could raise doubts about the export of Russian oil and grain through the Black Sea ports.

The opening of the sea route from the port of Odesa in September 2023 involved agreements with major global carriers.

It should be noted that Greek shipping companies have always been global leaders in maritime transport, and their authority in this business is undisputed. The visit of the Greek Prime Minister to Odesa and the meeting with Zelensky seem to indicate serious changes in Greece’s attitude towards the Ukrainian-Russian war, as well as possible Greek involvement in post-war development in Ukraine. These positive changes could not have gone unnoticed in Russia.

It is likely that the Ukrainian Defense Forces will carry out corresponding strikes on Russian ports. Possible targets may include oil terminals, after which carriers may refuse risky deliveries.
